T
he Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern is a five star
grand hotel on the shores of Lake Lucerne,
celebrated for its blend of historic elegance and
contemporary luxury. Opened in 1845 and
designed by architect Melchior Berri, it stands as
Lucerne’s first deluxe hotel and a example of
preserved neoclassical architecture. Privately
owned and managed by the Hauser family since
1861, the hotel has remained in continuous
family stewardship for five generations.
Renowned as a cultural landmark, Schweizerhof
has hosted artists, writers and royalty, including
Richard Wagner, Mark Twain and Queen
Victoria. Its public spaces retain their original
grandeur, with marble staircases, mosaic floors
and the celebrated Zeugheer Hall, a ballroom
praised as one of Europe’s finest. Following
sensitive renovations, the hotel now combines
historic character with modern five star comfort.
Each of the 101 guestrooms is individually
themed around a former guest, creating a
distinctive “living museum” atmosphere.
